Tutoring. My friend Jenny tapped into a high-income community and used her teaching background to earn $40/hour helping with homework. The real money came when she bundled three kids together for group homework sessions, charging each family $25/hr. That’s $75 for an hour of work that can be done while your baby naps. Or, while you pay a teenager $10 to watch the baby in another room. This is one of those work at home jobs for moms that can be both financially beneficial and persoanlly rewarding as you help children learn.
Although the demand is expected to decrease over the next decade, the opportunities are still there for travel agents who can harness the Internet to earn clients and help them plan their adventures. According to the BLS, job prospects may be best for travel agents who offer expertise in certain regions of the world, have experience planning tours or adventures, or who focus on group travel.
Toluna is a survey and product testing site where you can earn points for participation. One of the cool things about Google AdSense is that it's so easy to get set up. If you have a blog or website, you can sign up for a free Google AdSense Account. From there, Google will give you a unique code that you will paste onto your website. Google takes it from there, tracking your page views, traffic, and earnings on your behalf. There is no upkeep or maintenance to get this thing going, which makes it a no-brainer if you have a website already.
Fiverr: Israeli-based Fivver was started in 2010 by Shal Wininger and Micha Kaufam. It's a great resource for selling just about any service online. You can offer gigs as low as $5 but also get paid much more for upgrades and add-ons. There are plenty of providers earning 6 figures on Fiverr so it's definitely a worthwhile cause for generating a healthy income. Just ensure that you provide some serious value.
I’m a mom to two little boys (1 and 3) and just found out baby #3 is on the way. I want to work from home, and have started selling Jamberry and Thirty One from home, but with my 30 hour/week job, it’s been hard to get a really great start (I have wonderful support, just having a hard time finding the time while balancing time with my boys). My current ‘real’ job involves social media posting, newsletter and flyer creation, emailing distribution lists, text updates, some event planning, etc. I LOVE my job, but don’t get along well with my boss, so I’m trying to find ways to recreate my $1200/mo contribution to our finances. Any suggestions?

I started our Etsy shop when our daughter was 6 months old and I stopped working full time away from home. It initially started out as a way to earn a little extra money but we’ve put a lot of energy into it the last two years and have grown our Etsy shop to be one of our family’s primary sources of income. Our Etsy shop is MontanaSolarCreations. I also write a blog, Montana Homesteader, about our adventures in modern day homesteading. I monetized the blog and started making money with it the first month we started it. It is now about 8 months old and it has been making enough money each month to pay some of our monthly household bills – Annie Bernauer at Montana Solar Creations.
Find your niche partners, collaborators, and champions: As you’re creating your course, look for notable people who are also creating content in the space. Look at how their businesses operate and incorporate that into your own plan. You can also reach out to any influencers and make them affiliates for your own course. This way, they’ll be incentivized to share your content with their own audiences (which can be a major way to generate your first sales and start building your own community!)
Hosting exchange students- It’s not really considered income, but rather reimbursement for expenses, but caring for a teenager from another country has been a really rewarding experience for our whole family, and my 3-yr-old son proudly talks about his 2 Japanese “sisters”. I think this opportunity must only be taken on with genuine interest and care for the students, but the rate we are reimbursed definitely provides extra income for our family which allows me to stay at home and be a “Mom” to one more.
I love this community and just discovered it! I’ve been searching and searching for something to help me transition from Work Out There, to Work At Home. I’ve actually worked at home as a designer for an advertising agency for the past 4 years when they suddenly dropped freelance contracts. I also have a 4 year old son, so I was not ready to go back to “Work Out There” after all that time with him as my little assistant. I am struggling with routine, and this forum seems to have a lot of answers! I do still work at home, thank goodness, as I started with a brand new network marketing company called RemeVerse (anti-aging, science-based skincare). I think network marketing is one of the most overlooked and underappreciated “careers” out there for WAHMs. There’s so much potential! Now just to get to a solid morning routine…. hi everybody!

It takes an inordinately long time to collect enough points to get even a 5$ gift card, let alone 5$ in paypal… there are other sites that pay out way better. You’d honestly be better off collecting cans and recycling them for change rather than using swagbucks. I’ve tried using it for months now and I’ve had nothing but problems— not receiving points after watching tons of really bad videos/clips, not receiving points after completing a survey (or being told i was “screened out” of a survey AFTER i had a message saying it was complete!) Their customer service is terrible. It might work well for people who shop online a lot, but if you already don’t have any money in the first place, it is not very useful (half the things on there just redirect you to places where you have to sign up, give personal information, a lot of them ask for CREDIT CARD NUMBERS…beware!)
P.S. If you want to learn from some of the best in the business I highly recommend you check out the Work at home Summit. This summit is a collection of entrepreneurs talking about a myriad of different work at home businesses and jobs they’ve started and grown. This is 100% the best work at home event I’ve ever seen. (Totally scam free.) And it’s free. You can find out more here.
Just ordered this book, Blogging for Profit without Selling Your Soul. Hope to get some great info and tips for starting a blog. I quit my job a couple of years ago to start an art business. I love to paint. It’s not as lucrative as I want it to be so I’m looking to make some additional income doing something I love (at home). Thanks for all the great ideas everyone has posted. I’m taking very good notes!
Amy, good catch on that one. However, the site itself is updated regularly, it’s just that the content of that page and the info it gives haven’t changed so they didn’t need to change or “update” it. When everything is the same there is no need to update the content. If you look at other stuff that actually need updating (for example the copyright year notice in the footer) you can see that they do update them.
