Medium is an online community where anyone can post articles and essays and get them in front of their audience of millions of monthly readers. While it can be a great place to build your audience for your own blog or find customers for your consulting business, with Medium’s new Partner Program, you can now make money online whenever someone reads your articles. Register for free and you can choose whether your articles are freely available or only readable by those people paying $5/month for a premium Medium membership. You’ll make money based on the amount of people who read and engage with your posts each month.
I am a full time college student, wife, and mommy to one active 5 yr old who I homeschool. My husband (who is a veteran Marine) is in college as well, so our lives are jam packed with homework. I’ve thought about selling products (It Works, Mary Kay, etc), but I can’t see myself selling and promoting a brand or products that I’m not 100% about. I have artistic abilities that I thought about putting to use to get income, but unfortunately we don’t even have the money to invest in creating stuff to sell.
Holly fell into freelance writing on a whim. She submitted several pitches for guest posts and ended up landing a few clients. After roughly 6 months of freelancing on the side, she was making enough money to replace her income and work at home full-time. Now, she makes over $200,000 a year from writing alone. Not bad for a home-based business, eh?
Some of the “gotcha” job offers from the past include check-cashing schemes, mystery shopping, medical billing “jobs” that require you to purchase expensive computer software, and craft-making jobs that ask you to pony up the cash for materials before you get started. And let’s not forget about the famous envelope-stuffing scam that was nothing more than a pyramid scheme designed to siphon money from as many people as possible.
This is a great list! Some of these I have never thought of for the stay at home moms (and stay at home dads 😉 ) out there. I have done a lot of research on different ways to make some income and I am always amazed at the ideas I still routinely find. You mentioned working for Amazon. I know Amazon has a platform that offers some micro jobs you can do as well. They pay small amounts but if you do a lot they can add up! I also like Uber! But only for driving during the day. I wouldn’t suggest driving for Uber at night.
With so many businesses operating mostly, or even completely, online, it’s no wonder that many hire virtual assistants to help keep them organized and complete administrative tasks. According to the International Virtual Assistants Association, these workers are “independent contractors who (from a remote location, usually their home or office) support multiple clients in a variety of industries by providing administrative, creative, and technical services.”
Double check yourself, before you double wreck yourself. Make sure everything you send to a company, whether a résumé, an email or a portfolio, is good to go. Double check your grammar and wording, and for God’s sake use spell check! This is especially important when it comes to the company’s name. Don’t spell their name wrong and be sure to type it how they type it (e.g. Problogger, not Pro Blogger).
I have since contacted Global Typing Assignments one of the companies mentioned here by one Rebecca. Please, Alexa have you researched on this company which asks prospective assignment partakers to pay a registration fee? For instance, one of their registration amounts is US$100 to work? Please refer to this so that you may establish their general terms of service.

That’s not to say that blogging isn’t a real work-from-home option. I personally know dozens of people who make more than six figures a year from their blog, including my own family. In fact, I’d highly encourage you to start a blog if you feel inclined. Eventually, it can be a great source of residual income. Just don’t go into it thinking you’re going to make a ton of money right out of the gate.
I’ve tried everything to be able to work from home. Blogging, crowd sourcing, essential oils, digital assistant. The thing that I’ve been successful at is a Beachbody coach. I run challenge groups and help teach that the key to a healthy life means eating healthy and working out. I get to be a motivator and support for people and I love it! – Markell Corpus at Journey to a New You

I was surprised that Nerium International was not on your list. The company is less than 4 years old and has broken so many records! Our CEO, Jeff Olson, gets invited year after year to speak to and teach other CEOs at their annual conferences. He is nicknamed “The Millionaire Maker”, and has brought many many companies from the bottom to the top. Nerium did $100 Million their first year with one product, in one country. And it doubles every year after that! It is also the youngest company to reach the top 40 list of the Direct Selling Association! This company is climbing fast to the top, and I’m proud to be involved in it.

Typical jobs may require you to do Internet research, data entry, write emails, proofread letters and documents, maintain a social media page and much more non-phone work. You could be paid per hour, per task or day basis. If you are just starting out you may earn anywhere between $10-$30 per hour depending on your skills and the clients. You can command higher rates as you gain more experience as a virtual assistant.
Hey there @Melissa, I know you didn’t originally post to me, but I work for Younique, selling cosmetics at home. What I love about the company is that they focus on selling on social media and the internet, which makes it really convenient. Plus the company and my uplines are so positive and supportive! Not to mention the product is great, so that helps! I would love to talk more about it with you!
I am a STAM working 3 jobs… all part time and from home… (can u believe it?) But really, I started with the mystery shopping, and that was OK. The positive was you get paid, the challenge was not frequently and sometimes needed to wait a month for payment to be transferred to the paypal account. Then I became and infant massage teacher and love this. REDTENTSALE is my Ebay store, I sell so many various items I find from wholesellers and it’s nice, I do this when the kids are asleep; anyone can… very manageable and nice “but light” income. I would say the one by far that is taking me places is Real Estate Marketing.

Understand how a niche website works. A niche website focuses on very targeted, specific information. The content must be specific, useful and interesting to your target audience. Successful niche websites get anywhere from 1,000 to 10,000 visitors per month.[5] You build content on a particular keyword, and you make passive income with Google Adsense or through affiliate links.[6]

Hi, I am a mother of four, as well as a security/safety officer and a small daycare provider.. I have a background in education (worked for local school for about 10yrs) as well as safety (security officer for about 6yrs and took on safety position as an additive about a year and a half ago.). I would really like to be at home with my kids more and with that being said I am interested in data entry or something similar to that…
I work at home as an Operator Services contractor. Many people are scared of some of these jobs because they appear to be “too good to be true” and because you do have to pay for your background check up front. Some of them might be, however I have worked for http://www.LiveOps.com for 3 years now, and it has been great. My neighbor worked for them for 9 years. I choose my own hours, with shifts as short as 30 minutes. I have worked my way up to a specialty line, which I enjoy more that the “starter” line all agents start on. There are pros and cons, as with any job, but the pay is good (I average $15/hour) and I love the incredible flexibility. Agents are needed 24 hours per day, so you have lots of options. It is not available in every state though, So check the web site for more info.

Walk around your neighborhood or town and I’m sure you’ll see tons of great local businesses with terrible design. However, with increasingly easy-to-use tools like Adobe Illustrator, Venngage, Stencil, and Visme, just about anyone with a creative mindset and a good amount of motivation can start making money online by being a graphic designer for local companies.

My husband and I were builders in the military. Now, I’m a stay-at-home mom and he goes to school full-time, so our budget is extremely tight. It’s even tighter with hundreds of dollars going towards debt each month. We decided to use our construction experience to renovate and sell our home for a profit. We plan to use the money to pay off most, if not all, our debt. The next house should make enough money for us to pay ourselves a monthly salary while we work on the house after that and so on. This will be our “job,” so we get to work at home and create our own schedule as a family.

Hi Emily! yes that must be such a tough decision to make. It sounds like you have a great recipe for success for moving to a work at home situation with your background and experience. I always recommend that women stick with what they already know when making this transition. One option would be to look for companies that offer remote working for their employees, many do and many will if you ask. Alternately, you could start your own consulting business. Maybe there’s a specific need that you see in your line of work that you feel you could fill. I know it is scary to take that leap and leave your secure corporate job. In the end, I guess it comes down to which option is best for your family (and I am not saying there’s a ‘right’ answer here. It’s tough, so no guilt either way!) Kids having time with their parents is important, moms having the margin to love their kids well is important, putting a roof over your heads and food on the table is also crucial! I would also add that maybe you can think through changes you can make on the spending side to help offset the loss of income if you quit your job to work from home. In fact, you may actually save money by staying home simply by commuting less, having more time to cook rather than eat out, less childcare etc. I pray you’ll find just the right thing for you and your family Emily!

Now, making money online should seem like a pleasurable activity. Why wouldn't we do just about anything to see things through, since it would be a major source of pleasure, right? Wrong. In the beginning, like anything else, we might get really excited about it. We might also set our hopes very high. But that all comes crashing down when we begin to fail.
A while ago, I argued the best company for me isn’t necessarily the best company for you. I still stand by that statement. But many of you have been pounding at my email door and practically twisting my arm asking me for my personal favorite legitimate work at home companies. I was apprehensive about revealing this information because I really want you guys to take action on any legitimate work at home opportunities. But after giving it some thought, it made sense for me to provide you with a few of the ones I do actively work with, to get your started. But keep in mind I still believe that you should make decisions based on what's best for you. So with that said, check out my latest video on one of my favorite BBB listed work at home companies. I’ve been working with this company for years and have made some great money and also acquired a lot of free gadgets such as TVs, Ipods, and much more. (The gadget thing will become a lot clearer when you watch the video.) In either case this company has consistently made me money and has a good standing among work at home seekers that are smart enough to join the company and take advantage of all the ways to earn with them. Hopefully you’ll enjoy the video and will decide to join the company I’ve recommended.
Choose your niche and check for demand: The golden course combination is when you can find an in-demand niche that aligns with your skills and unique experiences. A great way to do this is to use Google Trends and Google’s Keyword Planner to look for average monthly search volume for keywords related to your proposed course content. Are people actively looking for high-quality information about this subject? Of course, if you’re already creating content for a blog, coaching service, or a site like Medium, you can test demand this way for free just like Bryan did.
I have a 7 month old baby, and have been running Snoack Studios, a web and graphic design company, for almost 5 years from home, I love it! We specialize in designing and developing WordPress websites, and also offer logos, business cards and any other print and digital marketing collateral a business may need! – Shannon Noak at http://www.snoackstudios.com
There are different programs, depending on your interests. The one I am most familiar with is Bradley, and they have training across the country every year. The training does cost, but it is a wonderful program. I went through Bradley classes with my husband when we were pregnant with our first and it was just the best experience for both of us. You can find more about training here.

Even though most people have access to a high quality camera through their smart phones, photographers are still very much in demand. Professional photographers are required for special occasions (weddings, portraits, maternity) and are compensated well for their services. Taking stock photos offers another opportunity for a photographer to earn money. Stock photos are in constant need by websites, blogs and online publications.

Amazon Mturk or Amazon Mechanical Turk offers legitimate and real online jobs opportunity to work-from-home and make extra income in your free time. If you are looking to earn additional income, then Amazon Mturk can turn out to be a great website as it offers simple chores that you can easily do in your free time. It is one of the best ways to make income by doing online jobs.
It seems some people took the opportunity to turn this wonderful article into a market campaign for themselves. I’m sorry to see that – but am wise enough to know it happens. Some of the replies are legitimate, trying to help other people who are interested in making money at home. Other replies are marketing their own at home business – pyramid style businesses. Thank you to Alexa for writing this and to many others that offered additional help in their reply. I work full time right now outside the home, but I need some extra income to help with some unexpected expenses that have come up. Thank you again – I hope all of you looking find/or have found something to help.
I am a single mom of 3 beautiful girls. My oldest has decided to move out on her own, but my other two are still at home. I work part time, go to school part time, and supplement my income by selling candles for a company called Jewelry in Candles. I have only been doing this for a few months and not many people have heard of this company where I live so it has been slow going, but it is going. I used to work 12 plus hours a day, 6 days a week and did it for years. I decided it was time to slow down a little bit so I can be around for those sporting activities.
Many companies now offer customer service via chat, text and email. Unlike straightforward online data entry jobs, a customer service rep is expected to interact with consumers and help to resolve their problems. This can sometimes be difficult if you are dealing with an extremely frustrated or angry consumer. Still, many home-based reps do enjoy their interactions with consumers and appreciate the challenge of being able to resolve their issues.
As someone who's been immersed in a number of online industries for quite some time, I know a thing or two about what it takes to succeed in this arena. However, just like you, I started at ground zero with little knowledge, but a great deal of passion. What I learned along the way were some invaluable lessons from failure that hurt at the time, but helped immensely in the grand scheme of things.
Amazon will have you work on micro-projects that require some sort of human interaction. Tasks can include translating a paragraph into English (or another language), rating the search results for certain keywords, or reworking an article. The tasks are simple, and you will be paid a small amount to complete each. But if you do enough tasks quickly, you can make a respectable amount of money.
If you are a professional photographer, or have a real flair for photography, then selling your images on other sites could be an idea. This could be done alongside your own photography site, as it is a good way help get your work viewed by a wider audience. There are numerous stock image websites to contribute to, but choosing a popular high-end site like Shutterstock should ensure your photographs make you some money.
According to this year's list, the top industries offering remote work opportunities include healthcare, information technology, education, nonprofit and philanthropy, and sales and marketing. And flexible arrangements can be found with job titles such as sales representative, senior analyst, nurse case manager, account executive, Web or software developer, accountant, and virtual teacher.
There are some good jobs on this list, but I just want to warn others that some of the gigs on this list are very low paying. Some Fiverr sellers do very well, but the majority of gigs don’t earn more than $50 a month. Also, keep in mind that if you are writing 1,000 word articles for $25 each for bidding site clients, you will burn out because you’d have to write a ton of those to equal the wages you’d make at a minimum wage job.

It is possible to make $30-$50 every month just doing surveys in your free time and no phone is required to do them. You can make anywhere between a few cents and a few dollars per survey, depending on the length and complexity of the survey. Most surveys take 10-15 minutes to complete. You can withdraw your earnings via direct deposit, PayPal and other ways depending on your location and the payment options supported by the survey sites.
2. InboxDollars – InboxDollars is similar to Swagbucks, since you’re going to be taking surveys, shopping, etc., so if you want to maximize your return, sign up with both websites. They also offer a search engine that pays you (like Swagbucks) and you get $5 just for signing up.  I won’t continue to list survey sites one after another down the list, but if you want to get paid to take surveys, also check out GlobalTestMarket, E-Poll Surveys and Survey Club.
I thought about having an in home before/after school care, but our state apparently has new laws about lead pipes/ paint, etc and all homes that were built before 1978 would have to be inspected. Our home was built in 1940 and I could not afford that inspection. So, that idea went down the commode. I was blessed with a daycare position for the summer that allowed me to bring my children for free and that was huge! Now I am substitute teaching and would love to be home full time again. ( my dh was incarcerated for a year and is ready to come home and make a new start-please pray that the Probation officer allows him to take a job that he has been offered already).
For those with a large Twitter following, you can make money from your Tweets alone with Sponsored Tweets. You could be paid for sharing a business’s information, recommending restaurants or hotels, or tweeting pictures of you using or wearing products. As with all sponsored posts on social media, businesses will only be prepared to pay you to Tweet if you have a large following that you can influence. So work hard on building up a loyal fan base.
Some never would have crossed my mind. (a Pinterest consultant? How cool is that?) Some direct marketing opportunities I’ve never heard of before. (Zija anyone?) There are even a couple of single moms supporting their families with their work at home jobs. And what’s more is that they’re carving out a space to chase their own dreams even while raising little ones.
•The website has no contact information. A legitimate business has a way for you to reach them. Look for an "About" page that offers information on the company or CEO, along with a phone number, address or contact email. (Try calling the number to see if anyone answers.) A website with only a contact form and no other way to get in touch with an actual human is suspicious.
